we were in paris
leaning near some
nameless balcony
and our smiles quickly
blossomed into a kiss

suddenly
a white warm weightlessness
welled up like a river
from my neck and in that instant
i knew somehow
it was a dream

then the fearsome wonder subsided
and the golden feeling abated
and i awoke
dismayed to discover
how along with the night
the lie had faded
and left inside me
all this light
